Industry figures gather for Clyde & Co liability forum

Clyde & Co recently welcomed over 50 representatives from the insurance industry to its 2024 Scottish Liability Forum, which was held in Glasgow.

The half-day event, which has been held annually for more than 20 years, was chaired by the firm’s managing partner for Scotland, Vikki Melville. It allows industry leaders and Clyde & Co’s experts to reflect on current issues, case decisions and trends impacting the insurance sector and their insureds. The forum also provided insurance professionals with an opportunity for networking.

Speakers at the forum included senior associates Angus Gillies and Kimberley Mitchell who shared updates on disease, cyber and regulatory developments. Partner Duncan Batchelor considered claims arising from cosmetic surgery and legal director, Natalie Gibb, spoke about decoding functional neurological disorders in personal injury cases.

Partners Andrew Constable and Andrew Tolmie discussed the law reform agenda around process and procedure and Graeme Watson shared insights from the firm’s annual Corporate Risk Radar report, where general counsel, in-house legal teams and C-suite decision makers reflect on the risks their organisations face and their ability to navigate challenges effectively.

The event concluded with a panel debate exploring industry representation and influence. The panel was chaired by head of policy development, Alistair Kinley, and featured partner Tanya Gordon, ABI assistant director, Alastair Ross, and Aviva senior claims manager, Alan Rogerson.

Ms Melville said: “We were once again delighted to welcome so many of Scotland’s leading insurers in person to consider current issues and upcoming procedural changes, and to provide them with an opportunity to catch up with existing contacts and build new connections.”
