House of Fraser to pull out of Granite City for second time
Major high street retailer House of Fraser has announced that it is to leave Aberdeen with almost immediate effect.
The retailer opened its collection-point store at the Granite City’s flagship Union Square shopping centre just five years ago but it will now close its doors by the end of this month.
It is the second time the company has left Aberdeen after one of its store in the city’s Union Street closed in 2003 with the lose of more than 100 jobs.
The firm confirmed that the decision to abandon the centre had come following a review, and last orders will be collected on Wednesday, August 24.
It is understood the firm has entered into consultation with its staff over their future.
A House of Fraser spokeswoman said: “Following a thorough review of the store and, with the lease up for renewal, House of Fraser confirms it will be closing its Buy & Collect store in Aberdeen at the end of August 2016.
“Our customers in and around Aberdeen will still be able to shop from our House of Fraser website and choose from our many delivery options to suit their needs.
“Buy & Collect (B&C) remains integral to our leading multi-channel proposition, and we will continue to invest in enhancing our B&C areas throughout our existing store portfolio.”
