Hall Morrice promotes two to partner as turnover hits £6m

Hall Morrice partners Jack Borg-Delaney and Louise Smith
Marking a period of significant growth, Aberdeen-based accountancy firm Hall Morrice celebrates a record £6 million turnover and the promotion of Louise Smith and Jack Borg-Delaney to partner.
This marks substantial revenue growth of 65% for the independent business over the last three years.
Significant expansion has been noted in the firm’s audit and advisory services, contributing significantly to the results. The client base for these services has grown to encompass more than 170 businesses.
As part of its long-term strategic vision, Hall Morrice has also launched Business Advisory Strategic Services (BASS), a division focused on financial planning, digital transformation, and data analytics. Led by director Paul Archibald, BASS offers clients a sophisticated advisory service that leverages real-time financial insights to drive operational efficiency and profitability.
With six new hires strengthening the audit, accounts and advisory teams so far this year, the firm is continuing to expand its workforce to over 90, with further recruitment planned in 2025.
The latest graduate recruitment drive is also well underway, with a new cohort of trainee accountants set to join in July.
Operations director Ian Mackie highlighted the achievement, describing the 65% revenue growth over the period as “fairly substantial”. He noted that its audit service saw the most significant increase in terms of percentage revenue growth.
Mr Mackie told The Press and Journal: “Being a smaller firm, we’re much more agile in our approach to audit. Our audit service has seen the biggest increase in terms of percentage of revenue increase.
“When I started, the headcount including partners was about 45. That has increased to 85 now, with the bulk being students and trainees.
“The way the market was post-Covid, to actually recruit an experienced accountant was really difficult, across the whole of the UK. It wasn’t just an Aberdeen thing.
“So the firm took the decision to really invest in new talent in the business.”
As part of the firm’s growth, it most recently promoted Louise Smith and Jack Borg-Delaney to partner, effective 1 April 2025.
Ms Smith’s promotion is a key achievement, as she becomes the first female partner to be promoted internally in 30 years. Having trained with Hall Morrice, she has been an integral part of the firm for 18 years, progressing from trainee to senior leadership. Over the years, she has built strong client relationships, championed technical excellence, and mentored the next generation of accountants.
“Hall Morrice has been my professional home for almost 2 decades, and I’m incredibly proud to take this next step. The firm’s commitment to developing its people has shaped my career, and I’m excited to help drive its future success,” said Ms Smith.
Joining the firm in early 2024 after a successful career in the Big Four, Mr Borg-Delaney brings a wealth of experience in audit, compliance, and strategic advisory services. His insights and leadership have already made a significant impact, helping to drive quality and efficiency across our services.
“From the moment I joined, I knew this was a firm with ambition, expertise, and a fantastic team. I’m looking forward to working alongside my colleagues to strengthen our offering and support the firm’s continued growth,” said Mr Borg-Delaney.
Alongside these advancements, Hall Morrice has prioritised employee well-being by enhancing its office environment. Recent renovations have improved working and communal spaces, including the creation of a dedicated break-out area for staff to recharge.
“Our people are at the heart of our success, and their expertise drives our continued growth,” said Bob Bain, managing partner. “By investing in both talent and technology, we are ensuring Hall Morrice remains a leader in audit, tax, and advisory services.
“As one of the few truly independent firms remaining in Aberdeen, our agility and personal approach sets us apart and we are committed to further growth while maintaining the high standards our clients expect.”
