greentech outlines investment plans in Scotland after securing approval for two solar farms

Following consents for two 30MWp solar farms in Scotland earlier in 20224, greentech is committing further investment and growing its presence in Scotland, with plans for a number of new sites to be announced later this year.

greentech received consent from Angus Council’s Development Standards Committee for the Wellbank Solar Farm in February 2024 - with councillors unanimously supporting the development. This was followed in March 2024 with consent for the Billsbrae Solar Farm development (between Aberdour and Crossgates), with unanimous support from councillors on Fife Council’s West and Central Planning Committee.

Both solar developments went through the Major Application route via the planning authorities - Billsbrae (30MW) attracted no letters of objection from local residents and Wellbank (32MW) received one local representation.

The two developments represent approximately £14 million in investment into the Scottish economy. greentech has joined the local Chambers of Commerce to help foster relationships within local supply chains and contribute to economic growth.

The company is committed to a community benefit fund as well as increasing biodiversity on site and offering local school visits to the solar farms.

greentech is an experienced project developer for ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) solar power across Europe. The company was founded in Hamburg, Germany, in 2008 and has subsequently become a leading independent, fully integrated solar farm specialist across Europe. greentech entered the UK market in 2017, initially to provide operation and maintenance services to existing solar farms, and in 2020 established a development team to identify, secure and deliver a pipeline of projects.

greentech has links to Dunfermline FC, with some of the senior greentech team invested into the Club. Last year, greentech displayed the football club’s League 1 trophy at its Royal Highland Show stand.

The solar farm developer will have a large presence at All Energy in Glasgow on 15/16 May 2024 at Stand A20.

Yaw Ofori, managing director UK of greentech, said: “greentech brought forward our first two developments in Scotland in Summer 2022 and have since received consent for both projects - we want to thank the local communities for their input into each development and also for the welcome we have received to date. We want to invest further into Scotland and have a number of developments to come forward later this year.

“Our investment to date represents £1.8m into the Scottish economy and we want to work with the local supply chain on our projects. We are dedicated to bringing forward renewable energy projects that will help meet Scotland’s net zero targets as well as bring economic benefits to the local area.”
