Grant Thornton has appointed a new associate director as it continues to drive forward its wealth advisory growth strategy in Scotland.

Derek Blaik joins the Scottish practice’s Edinburgh office from PwC where he’ll play a leading role growing Grant Thornton’s Wealth Advisory team and client base.

The firm said Mr Blaik brings more than 25 years’ experience in financial services to their operations.

Andrew Howie, Grant Thornton’s managing partner in Scotland and Northern Ireland, said: “Derek has many years of experience and will play a crucial role in helping Grant Thornton build an even stronger presence throughout Edinburgh and the east. Our Scottish growth strategy is focused on delivering strong results through key appointments, new wins and a drive to lead the debate on how Scotland can create a more sustainable, vibrant economy. Derek’s knowledge and passion will be invaluable as we move forward with confidence and a drive for further growth.”

Mr Blaik added: “I’m thrilled to be joining Grant Thornton at such an important point in its growth story. There’s a real hunger for growth in the firm and a shared passion to do things differently. I’ve worked in financial services for more than 25 years and witnessed the highs and lows facing the industry. I look forward to playing a key role in placing our Wealth Advisory team at the heart of Grant Thornton’s service offerings and helping to ensure we achieve our ambitious goals.”
