Glaswegian accountant gets set for Texas
A trainee accountant from Glasgow will be donning his football boots in 2017 after winning a bursary which will allow him travel to Texas to referee at the esteemed Dallas Cup.
Connor Ashwood, who is an Audit Trainee with mid-tier Scottish accountancy firm French Duncan, secured the Tom Wharton Bursary – an award which will see him travel to one of the most competitive international youth soccer tournaments in the world, in April 2017.
The 23 year old, who grew up in Knightswood and now lives in Finnieston in Glasgow, studied accountancy at Glasgow University, and referees junior football matches in his spare time in the SJFA West Region.
Connor said: “This is such a fantastic opportunity and I’m extremely honoured to secure this bursary. The Dallas Cup tournament attracts football teams from around the world, including Real Madrid and Manchester United – and getting the chance to referee under 18s at this high profile event will be an experience to remember.
“I’ll be spending a few weeks in Texas in April, but I’ll be back to finish off my accountancy exams and pursue my accountancy career before long!”
