Furniture retailer Olivia’s buys Houseology
Glasgow-based Houseology, who went into administration last month, has been bought by Staffordshire-based rival furniture retailer Olivia’s in a blind auction for an undisclosed sum.
Stuart Robb and Michelle Elliot of Leonard Curtis Business Rescue & Recovery Glasgow were appointed joint administrators of Houseology Design Group Limited on 24th January. The retailer ceased trading and 23 employees were made redundant.
Under its new ownership, Houseology will be operated as a standalone brand, as part of Olivia’s parent company The Moot Group.
The group has taken on Houseology’s IP and assets, including stock, The Insider reports.
Moot Group will not take on any of Houseology’s liabilities but would be happy to “help any Houseology customers that have been affected by the recent news and will try to work with historical creditors”.
Houseology will be operated from the Group’s base in Staffordshire, where 20 members of staff will be hired over the next 12 months.
Nick Moutter, The Moot Group founder and chief, said: “When I first started Olivia’s, Houseology was one of the brands we aspired to be as big as someday. Being able to help save it from collapse after just two years of trading is a great feeling, and a direct result of the expertise and innovation in marketing and technology that we have at The Moot Group.
“I’m excited to expand The Moot Group’s current luxury home offering and breathe new life into a brand that has served so many loyal customers over the last 10 years. We’re working hard to ensure a smooth transition for Houseology customers and suppliers, and deliver our mission of being the place online to get fashion for your home.”
