Former Clydesdale boss Thorburn to join Barclays UK board
Barclays Bank has announced the appointment of former Clydesdale Bank boss David Thorburn as a non-executive director and board risk committee chair.
Mr Thorburn, who is currently an independent non-executive of EY and was until recently an external member of the Bank of England’s Prudential Regulatory Committee, will bring significant retail & commercial banking and board-level experience to Barclays, the lender said.
Glasgow-born Thorburn, who is also a former vice-Chairman and Chairman of the Confederation of British Industry in Scotland and a past President of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland, as well as a former Director of Scottish Financial Enterprise, joined Clydesdale as a graduate trainee in 1984 before rising to the position of chief executive officer, a position he held between 2008 and 20011.
Announcing his latest appointment, Barclays non-executive director Sir Ian Cheshire said: “David’s understanding of financial services, breadth of experience, and proven track record will make him an invaluable member of the new Board.”

The Barclays UK business comprises retail banking (including Premier and Mortgages), business banking, Wealth and Investment Management UK and Barclaycard UK.
