The five Scottish businesses are among 25 selected as finalists across the UK.

The shortlist highlights the diversity and resilience of the Scottish entrepreneurial landscape, with companies from sectors including technology, consumer, and manufacturing.

The EY acknowledged the success of Scottish businesses to adapt and identify opportunities for growth despite recent circumstances.

Mike Timmins, EY partner and EY Entrepreneur of the Year Scotland leader, said: “Achieving success as an entrepreneur takes courage and relentless determination at the best of times, never mind when facing one of the most challenging environments we’ve seen. Scotland’s entrepreneurial talent continues to impress, with this year’s UK finalists representing a vibrant and resilient business community.

“Despite having to navigate a very turbulent year, these Scottish entrepreneurs have responded positively with a desire to seize opportunity and pursue accelerated growth. Their ability to be proactive in such uncertain times, some embracing new technologies others adopting new operations, is the sign of a true entrepreneur. Some already have an impressive global reach but we can expect to see further growth, domestic and international from this ambitious cohort.”

The businesses ranged from a farming technology business that is tackling the challenge of sustainable food production (Intelligent Growth Solutions), to the makers of the first portable wood-burning pizza oven that’s accessible and affordable for home-use (Ooni Ltd).

The other Scottish finalists include a marine technology company founded by a teenager in the Hebrides (Gael Force Group), a security services company that has grown to become one of the largest independent players in the UK (Adarma), and a provider of virtual PA and administrative services that is out to transform the way we see admin workers (Smart PA).

Each entrepreneur will be marked against six criteria by independent regional judging panels and the finalists will progress to the UK finals.
