EY announces three partner promotions
EY has strengthened its leadership in Scotland with three internal partner promotions, as Julie Cavin and Nicola McIntyre, both in the audit service line and Iain Wintour in tax bring the partner total in Scotland to 33.
Ms Cavin and Ms McIntyre’s promotions have also brought the number of female partners at the firm to 13 (39%).
EY has also continued ts support the next generation of talent with a 10% increase in student recruitment. These promotions and recruitment signal the continued investment in local talent, the Scottish market and the support of clients during uncertain times.
Julie Cavin joined EY three years ago after ten years in London with another Big Four firm and is based in EY’s Edinburgh Office. She has broad, cross-sector experience (including in transportation, retail & consumer and manufacturing) with businesses ranging in size from mid-market to listed on AIM and the FTSE 350. She will primarily work with medium-sized businesses.
Also joining as an audit partner is Nicola McIntyre who is Glasgow-based. While Nicola’s remit and experience is also cross-sector, including retail, consumer products and manufacturing, her main sector focus is in energy. She works with some of Scotland’s largest businesses, has extensive experience with UK listed companies and works with a growing portfolio of mid-market companies.
The promotion of Edinburgh-based Iain Wintour is another boost to EY’s corporate tax practice in Scotland, which has grown its headcount by 50% in the last three years and recently welcomed two senior hires in Aberdeen. In addition to advising some of Scotland’s largest businesses across various sectors and leading the tax team in Edinburgh, Iain will continue to focus on growing EY’s strong footprint in the infrastructure and renewable energy sectors, which are set to play an important role in Scottish economic growth in the future.
There have also been five internal promotions to associate partner with Kris Aspin and Simon Millage in the strategy and transactions team based in Edinburgh and Glasgow respectively. The tax team has also promoted three new associate partners, Judith Wilson and Craig Menzies both in EY’s Glasgow office and Bob Cardno in its Aberdeen office.
These promotions follow the recruitment of 97 graduates and apprentices across EY in Scotland, reinforcing the firm’s commitment to investing in and nurturing local talent despite the backdrop of COVID-19. This is an increase from 88 graduates and apprentices hired in 2019.
The 83 graduates and 14 apprentices have joined EY offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Edinburgh. In line with EY’s commitment to recruit a diverse pool of candidates, 41% of the student recruits this year are female and 22% and from ethnic minorities.
