Having recently announced a turnover growth of almost 95% in just five years, this year’s intake of graduates will be spread across all EQ offices, with two trainees based in Dundee, Forfar and Glenrothes and one in Cupar.

While providing opportunities in their local area, the investment in trainees will also support the firm’s ongoing expansion. Along with the increase in turnover to £7.5 million in 2019, staff numbers have grown from 70 to 130 within the same period. The firm has also expanded its Dundee premises, where staff numbers have grown by almost 70% over the last five years, by incorporating the unit next door.

The seven new graduates represent a range of disciplines, including Accountancy / Finance graduates Sam Walker (University of Dundee), Heather Leighton (University of Glasgow), Karri Russell (University of Abertay) and Ashley Breckenridge (University of Stirling).

Meanwhile, Calum MacDonald, a Mathematical Biology graduate from University of Dundee, Andrew Kelly, a Mathematics (Integrated Masters) graduate from University of St Andrews, and Sinead Scobie, a Psychology graduate from University of St Andrews have also joined the team.

Six of the graduates will pursue the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) qualification, with Karri embarking on her training with Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA).

The new recruits join the existing team of 13 graduates who are on their training journey with the firm. With one graduate being admitted to membership with ACCA, and another four now exam qualified with ICAS, the firm prides itself on the continued professional development of all graduates progressing through their training.

With their graduate recruitment drive about to begin for next year, EQ offers an intensive, three-year training programme which is unrivalled locally when it comes to the experience, training and funding which graduates benefit from.

As well as being exposed to a broad range of assignments, with client responsibility from early on, graduates receive a diverse training experience, developing skills in accountancy, taxation and audit. The programme also offers the opportunity to enhance personal skills and gain valuable insight into business advisory services.

David Cameron, managing partner, said: “With growing demand for the services we provide, it’s crucial that we have the right people in place. We are therefore delighted to welcome this group of talented, young people to our growing workforce, while also congratulating our existing graduates on their exam successes and continued development.

“When it comes to graduate recruitment, we look beyond the degree. Instead, we focus on attracting and investing in the right calibre of graduate, ensuring that they can thrive within the firm as both individuals and professionals, enjoying a truly rounded experience. We look forward to working with our new colleagues, shaping them into professional Chartered Accountants who we are proud of, and who are proud of themselves.”
