Edinburgh office of Standard Life Aberdeen hosts fashion ‘swap shop’
Staff at Standard Life Aberdeen (SLA) in Edinburgh and London have hosted a fashion “swap shop” to promote sustainable fashion.
Colleagues were invited to come along with clothes, shoes and accessories they no longer wanted and in return, take home anything that caught their eye.
The events, organised by SLA’s Environmental Champions network, aimed to promote sustainable fashion through reducing waste and, therefore, the carbon footprint of clothing.
Items left over were donated to Smart Works, a women’s clothing charity specialising in work wear for unemployed women; Kids Love Clothes, a children’s clothing volunteer-led charity; and the remaining clothes to local charities.
Ann Meoni, corporate sustainability and environment manager at Standard Life Aberdeen, said: “It was pleasing to see many colleagues take part in our Swap Shop event, which reflects increasing awareness and support for reducing waste in fashion.
“Personally, I’ve worked towards a small thoughtful wardrobe of clothes that I love and I very rarely buy anything new. This kind of event allows people to refresh their wardrobe, while being mindful of reducing waste by re-using.”
