Gneiss Energy, an Edinburgh and London-based energy finance advisory firm, has expanded its services to include metals and mining.

The move reflects the increasing importance of critical minerals in the energy transition and the growing interest from investors in this sector.

Established in 2016 by industry veteran Jon Fitzpatrick, the firm provides strategic finance advice to energy investors worldwide, from oil and gas to cleantech and renewables.

The team has grown to more than 20 advisers and retained consultants across the two locations.

Mr Fitzpatrick, managing director, said: “There’s growing recognition of the role metals and mining play in the energy transition.

“Critical minerals are vital in the drive to electrification, and mining firms are increasingly seeking to decarbonise their own operations.

“We are now seeing this cross over into the investment community with, for example, funds that were interested solely in energy and renewables, now looking at metals processing and extraction including mining and recycling.”

Ariel Tepperman, a seasoned metals and mining specialist with two decades of experience, has joined the firm as head of metals and mining. He will offer clients full-spectrum advice on capital raising, mergers and acquisitions, and strategic advisory across the metals and mining field.

Mr Tepperman said: “Interest in the sector is evolving rapidly, whether it’s in prospecting, extracting processing or recycling, with investors of all classes noting the global shift in sentiment towards the space.

“There is increasing cross over in capital pools and our view is that this trend will continue, with clients seeking advice that is both broad and deep – and my role will be to help Gneiss Energy leverage its excellent existing platform to make this a success.”
