Dundee FC posts £2.76m loss following premiership investment

Dundee Football Club recorded a pre-tax loss of £2.76 million for the financial year ending 31 May 2024.
This figure is marginally lower than the £2.86m loss reported for the previous year (2022/23) when the club was in the Scottish Championship.
The club attributed the loss to necessary investment following their promotion to the Scottish Premiership. This included a significant increase in the player wage bill, which rose by £1 mto £4 m. Staffing levels also increased from 68 to 80 employees. Costs associated with major pitch refurbishment at Dens Park and stadium rent of £603,376 contributed to the expenditure.
The accounts also reveal a payment of £144,000 in shares made to Technical Director Gordon Strachan in lieu of salary.
The year-end deficit in shareholders’ funds deepened to £8.1m, compared to £6.2 mat the end of May 2023. This latest loss brings the club’s cumulative losses over the past eight financial years to £9.6m. This period includes a £900,000 loss in 2021/22 and a small profit of £74,279 in 2020/21.
Despite the substantial loss, Dundee’s directors anticipate an improvement in the club’s financial position over the 2024/25 and 2025/26 seasons, based on conservative projections for league performance, attendances, and cost management. Continued financial support is pledged by owners Football Partners Scotland.
