Dundee City Council’s head of corporate finance moves to corporate services

Paul Thomson
Dundee City Council has named Paul Thomson as its new executive director of Corporate Services, effective this April.
Mr Thomson, currently head of corporate finance, will succeed Robert Emmott, who departs to become Glasgow City Council’s new executive director of financial services.
Mr Thomson was born and raised in Dundee, attended Harris Academy and first joined Tayside Regional Council as part of their youth training programme in 1993. He then qualified as an accountant in 2003 and has since worked in several roles both within finance and neighbourhood services.
Mr Thomson said: “I am very pleased to be appointed to what is sure to be an interesting and challenging post.
“With local authority budgets continuing to be under significant pressure and demand for services growing, the role of Executive Director of Corporate Services will be a key one in the council leadership team and I am looking forward to this new challenge.
“I will continue to work closely with elected members and council staff to help deliver on our priorities for the people of the city and their communities.”
Mark Flynn council leader added: “It is always good to see ‘homegrown’ talent getting on and I know this is an excellent appointment for the council.
“I look forward to continuing the close working relationship with him in our efforts to achieve our goals for Dundee and its people.”
Chief executive Greg Colgan said: “I am delighted that Paul has accepted this position at the city council. His was the stand-out application in what was a very strong field.”
