Co-op to open seven new Scottish stores as part of £4.4m investment
The Co-op is set to launch seven new stores in Scotland during November as part of a £4.4 million investment programme which will create 60 jobs.
New Co-op’s will open their doors in Stornoway, Isle of Lewis (£735k) and Stirling (£680k) on 15th November, Edinburgh (£640k) on 22nd November followed by Galston, East Ayrshire (£645k), Barrachnie, Glasgow (£600k), Wemyss, Inverclyde (£540k) and Forres, Moray (£560k) all on 29th November – offering customers a greater choice of healthy foods, meal ideas, food-to-go, award-winning wines and essentials.
The new Co-ops will run on 100% renewable electricity and will sell 5p compostable carrier bags which can be used as food waste caddy liners.
They’ll also bring a funding boost for local good causes through the Co-op’s Membership scheme – Members receive a 5% reward when they swipe their card when buying own-branded products, and the Co-op donates a further 1% to local good causes.
The Co-op also offers a 10% discount to students holding a Young Scot NEC card to support them during their studies.
Derek Furnival, Co-op’s divisional managing director, said: “Our sustained investment in Scotland is indicative of the long and proud history we have here and we’re delighted to be able to open yet more stores in such a diverse range of locations.
“With over 360 Co-ops in Scotland – that’s one in every postal area – which together employ around 6,000 colleagues, we are able to give our customers and members the opportunity to buy what they want, when they want it, in great looking stores that also give back to the local community.”
