Clan chief leaves £18 million
A clan chief who died late last year and whose ancestors fought alongside Robert the Bruce has left an £18 million fortune to his family.
Angus MacDonald Lockhart, the head of the Lockhart clan, passed away suddenly in November last year after falling ill at home aged 69.
The father-of-two passed away with his family by his side at his Lanarkshire estate.
It has since been revealed by way of his published will that he ordered his £17,758,874 estate, which included land, castles, other property interests and a stocks and shares portfolio be passed to his family.
Mr Lockhart ordered several cash legacies be given to close family but instructed the bulk of his fortune be kept in trust for his wife, Susan, and children, Ranald and Fiona.
He also gifted £1,000 to Asthma UK.
An announcement on the Clan Lockhart website read: “It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of your Clan Chief, Angus Hew Lockhart of the Lee. Angus died unexpectedly at home with his wife, Su at his side. Following a private family cremation a service of thanksgiving for his life was held at Biggar Kirk on December 3.
“His ashes will be scattered on the estate. His son, Ranald, succeeds him as Chief of the Clan Lockhart.”
