Cala submits plans for proposed Banchory development

Cala Homes (North) has submitted a planning application to Aberdeenshire Council for proposed new homes in Banchory.

The site, located just off Raemoir Road at Upper Lochton in the town, would comprise 78 properties with 25% of the proposed homes affordable properties in line with planning requirements.

The housebuilder held a community consultation event in November last year to provide the local community with the opportunity to see plans and share feedback.

The proposed development would see a mix of two, three, four and five-bed detached homes built, appealing to couples and families keen to enjoy the high quality-of-life Banchory has to offer, with stunning scenery and a strong community spirit, whilst also being close to Aberdeen and the many amenities that the city provides.

Having recently received validation from the Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) for its sustainability targets, the new Cala homes are proposed to be heated by electric air source heat pumps rather than traditional gas boilers, as the business moves towards removing fossil fuels from its new developments. In addition, all homes would also be enabled for electric car charging to help facilitate greener travel.

Alongside the proposed development being more sustainable through utilising green technology, Cala’s focus will also be on putting a number of biodiversity measures in place, to ensure wildlife can continue to flourish within the area.

Eleanor Jack, land assistant at Cala Homes (North), said: “We are pleased to have submitted an application to create a new community in the picturesque town of Banchory, which if approved would offer a fantastic opportunity for those keen to move to Aberdeenshire from the city.

“At just 18 miles outside of Aberdeen city centre, Banchory offers a peaceful, rural lifestyle with easy access to key commuter routes. With excellent schools, a friendly community, and a range of local amenities, including shops, cafes, and restaurants, those keen to relocate, whether families or couples, would be well served by our proposed new development.

“This is an exciting project, and if approved would mark Cala’s return to Banchory for the first time in several years. We look forward to receiving a positive decision from Aberdeenshire Council in due course, allowing us to create a development that the local community can be proud of for generations to come.”
