C. Hoare & Co appoints Giles Andrews as non-executive director
The UK’s second oldest bank, C. Hoare & Co., has announced the appointment of Giles Andrews as an independent non-executive director of the bank.
Mr Andrews has extensive experience in financial technology, lending and investment. In 2004, he co-founded Zopa, an online peer-to-peer lending business (now a digital bank), where he served as CEO (2007-2015) and chairman (2015-2019) and remains an active board member. He is also a non-executive director of Bank of Ireland Group plc and chairs online car marketplace Carwow.
Giles studied psychology at Christ Church, Oxford, and holds an MBA from INSEAD. He received an OBE in 2015 for services to financial services and was named FinTech leader of the Year in the 2016 FinTech Innovation Awards.
His new role at the London-based bank was welcomed by the chairman, Lord Nicholas Macpherson, who said: “Giles is a great addition to the board. His experience as an entrepreneur and in fintech and banking will be invaluable.”
C. Hoare & Co. was established in 1672 and is currently the oldest private bank in the UK, continuously owned by the Hoare family since its inception.
