England: Black bank manager wins £1m settlement after wrongful gun crime accusation
A black bank manager, Dale Semper, has settled a £1 million lawsuit against the Metropolitan Police after being wrongly accused of gun crime in 2017.
Mr Semper, who was handcuffed and had his home searched, alleged racial profiling and the incident’s devastating impact on his career and mental health. As a result of the ongoing investigation, he was suspended his position at Bank of Scotland-owner Lloyds Bank, The Guardian reports.
The Met Police has apologised and agreed to reinvestigate parts of Semper’s complaint, although they haven’t admitted liability. Mr Semper hopes this case will contribute to the Met’s efforts to become “truly anti-racist”.
