BDO expands Scottish tax team
Mid tier accountancy firm BDO has expanded its Scottish tax team with the transfer of James Paterson from its London to its Edinburgh office.
A tax director with a specialism in real estate, BDO said Mr Paterson has been brought north to facilitate the growth of the firm’s tax services in the region.
He makes the move having trained with BDO, and for the last nine years has regularly assisted domestic and international groups in connection with tax compliance matters, providing advice in connection with the structuring of operations, and advising on issues for shareholders.
He said: “This is a great opportunity to advise businesses throughout Scotland and to utilise my experience in providing the full spectrum of tax compliance and advisory services, especially given the anticipated further devolution of Scottish taxes. I have advised on numerous transactions at all levels of the market and I am excited at the prospect of being part of the tax team in Scotland.”
Mr Paterson is a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and has been closely involved with a number of entrepreneurial businesses involved in real estate as well as institutions and large corporate groups.
Martin Gill, who heads BDO in Scotland, added: “James is another great addition to our growing tax team. His appointment reflects the increased need for specialist tax advice in the buoyant Scottish market. BDO in Scotland has grown by 60% over the last three years, both through merging and organically. We will continue to invest in quality people in the coming years to ensure our clients have the best advice from the best people.”
