Average UK house price rises but Scotland sees fall
The average price of a home in Scotland dipped last year, in contrast to the UK as a whole, according to new official figures.
The average price of a typical UK home increased by £18,000 last year meaning that by December the average property was worth £ 288,000.
However, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that while house prices in the UK increased by 6.7 per cent annually, in Scotland they fell by 0.2 per cent, taking the average value of a home to £193,000.
In England, property prices increased by 7.3 per cent in the year to December, reaching £301,000 on average.
House price growth in England was driven by a 9.7 per cent annual price increase in the east.
