The ceremony, held at the Sheraton Grand Hotel, marked the start of the Scotland Fintech Festival and celebrated the achievements of the Scottish fintech sector.

Aveni.ai, which has seen significant growth in revenue and staff numbers this year, beat strong competition from companies like BR-DGE and LendingCrowd.

CEO Joseph Twigg expressed delight at the win. He told the host and organiser of the event DIGIT: “We’ve been around for four years or so, and we’ve been asked in previous years whether we want to submit an application for Fintech of the Year.

“We felt we hadn’t achieved enough, but this year’s been different. Our revenue has tripled, the number of people that work at Aveni at the start of the year was maybe 29, 30; right now it’s 50, by the end of the year it’s probably going to be 60.

“Our clients are starting to really expand the way they use our technology – we’re in a good place.”

Additionally Mickael Paris, Fintech Scotland’s marketing director, received the Special Recognition award for his contributions to the Scottish fintech ecosystem.

Mr Paris said he was “really humbled, and emotional” to receive the award, adding “it’s the only award where you cannot submit an application yourself”.
