And finally… worth its weight
Royal Mint has produced an 18-carat solid gold payment card.
The 18-carat hallmarked debit cards will be personalised for account holders ‘who value high-quality luxury items that make a statement’.
Those who wish to acquire one of the new cards must pay £18,750.
The cards can also be personalised and specially designed for an extra fee.
The gold cards have been made by Mint in collaboration with Mastercard and the payments technology firm Accomplish Financial.
Besides the initial £18k fee for the card, there are no additional charges attached to the account and no special criteria which account holders must meet.
As well as being hallmarked by the Goldsmiths’ company Assay Office, the cards also use source-traceable metals, certified under the Responsible Jewellery Council’s Chain of Custody.
The account connected to the card (the Raris account) benefits from zero foreign exchange or transaction fees.
