And finally… walking the walk
High street banks in the UK have started to track customers’ ‘walking style’ in an effort to counter fraud.
Banks are using their apps on customers’ mobile phones to monitor their daily habits including how they walk, sleep and type to prevent criminals from stealing their money, The Daily Telegraph reports.
The technology can monitor how customers walk, as well as how tightly they grip their phone. If this behaviour changes, the software will report suspicious activity and could prompt a call from the bank, or trigger an immediate block on cash transfers.
Banks do not require explicit consent to track activity and can do so when banking apps are not active. Biometric data are protected by privacy rules.
