British American Tobacco (BAT) has agreed to pay £512 million to the US authorities for selling cigarettes in North Korea for 10 years.
The firm, which is one of Britain’s largest companies, said it “deeply regrets” breading trading sanctions and has accepted a deferred prosecution agreement.
The total payable to the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and Department of Justice is $635m (£512m) plus interest, the Daily Telegraph reports.
