And finally… trumped-up
A rare Lamborghini Diablo, which was initially custom-built for Donald Trump, has sold at auction for $1.1 million (around £870,000), five times its estimated value.
The limited edition 1997 Diablo VT Roadster, one of only 132 produced for the US market, became a hot commodity, thanks to the former US President being the first listed owner in the car’s manual.
The fervent bidding war was ignited by the association with the former US president, surpassing experts’ predictions for the car’s value without Mr Trump’s name linked to it. This rare auction presented enthusiasts with an opportunity to own both a piece of automotive and presidential history.
Delivered to Mr Trump in 1997, the Diablo, an iconic supercar of the nineties, boasts a ‘Donald Trump 1997 Diablo’ plaque on its interior door. With a mere 15,431 miles on the clock and only two owners since Mr Trump’s ownership ended in 2002, the Diablo maintains its allure.
The auction house had not established a pre-sale guide price for the Lamborghini. However, its last sale in 2016 for $460,000 (around £360,000) hinted at its value. Notably, this transaction occurred on eBay four months before Mr Trump assumed the presidency, setting the stage for the recent record-breaking sale, thisismoney.co.uk reports.
