And finally... time out

The latest Apple Watch is being pulled from US shelves at the height of Christmas shopping season due to a David v Goliath patent dispute.

The move comes after the US International Trade Commission (ITC) ruled in October that Apple infringed on the patents of medtech company Masimo in relation to the blood oxygen monitoring feature in its new Series 9 and Ultra 2 smartwatches.

The tech giant is voluntarily pulling the products from sale this week, a few days in advance of a legal deadline, NPR reports.

Apple denies infringing on Masimo’s patents and has called on the Biden administration to overturn the ITC ruling.

Masimo claims it was in talks to license the technology to Apple in 2013, which ultimately collapsed. Later, it says Apple hired key Masimo staff to work on its smartwatches.
