And finally… Shop & Go

Supermarket chain Aldi is piloting a new £10 pre-payment system at its checkout-free Shop & Go store in Greenwich, London.
Customers entering the store, which opened in 2022, must either download the Aldi Shop & Go app or tap their contactless card. A £10 sum is then reserved, which is later deducted from the final bill.
The system, utilising advanced AI-powered cameras to track shoppers’ movements and product interactions in real time, allows customers to simply walk out of the store after selecting their items, MSN reports.
While convenient for some, concerns have been raised about the delay in refunding the reserved amount to customers who spend less than £10 or leave without buying anything. Aldi acknowledges that it may take several days for the refund to be processed, depending on the customer’s bank.
