And finally… sheafra mirage
A social media account posing as the “Government of East Africa” went viral after posting an image of a fake new single currency called the “sheafra”.
The East African Community was forced to dismiss the sheafra notes as rumours, confirming that plans for a regional currency remain a work in progress targeting 2031.
The man behind the hoax, Ugandan Moses Haabwa, said he wanted to offer hope for East African unity. He runs a group called the “Federal Republic of East Africa Government” and had previously released specimen sheafra notes that gained little attention. However, his account’s grey verified tick from X lent credibility to the latest viral post, BBC reports.
