And finally… settle down

Israel has threatened ice cream manufacturer Ben & Jerry’s with “serious repercussions, legal and otherwise” after it said it would no longer sell its products in illegal settlements.

In a statement on Monday, the ice cream company said it now believed it was “inconsistent with our values” for its products to be sold in occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).

It added: “Although Ben & Jerry’s will no longer be sold in the OPT, we will stay in Israel through a different arrangement. We will share an update on this as soon as we’re ready.”

Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett has denounced the move as a “clearly anti-Israel step” and said he had spoken directly to the CEO of Unilever, which owns Ben & Jerry’s, The Guardian reports.

A spokesperson for Mr Bennett said he communicated that the move would have “serious consequences, legal and otherwise, and that [Israel] will act aggressively against all boycott actions against its citizens.”
