And finally... quid game

A local council in South Korea is offering cash incentives worth up to £13,000 to young people who strike up a relationship following a local matchmaking event.

Busan’s Saha district office is offering 1 million won (c. £570) to any couples that form after a mass blind-dating event to be hosted by the district council in October, The Korea Times reports.

If the relationship goes well enough to hold a sang-gyeon-rye – a family meeting that typically precedes a wedding – then a further 2 million won (c. £1140) will be offered.

If the couple ends up getting married, they will be in line for a 20 million won (c. £11380) payment.

The district office will also provide additional housing support to the couple for up to five years.

If the event succeeds in forming new long-term relationships, the district council has said it will attempt to make it an annual fixture.
