And finally… penalty for PINs
Turkey’s Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (Bankacılık Düzenleme ve Denetleme Kurumu – BDDK) has introduced a new regulation prohibiting the use of certain PINs, particularly the founding dates of football clubs, due to security concerns.
This measure aims to prevent credit and debit card fraud. This ban adds to restrictions on using birthdates, historical dates (like 1453, 1881, 1915), and repeated number sequences as PINs, which were already previously discouraged, told Sputnik Türkiye reports.
Lawyer Nimet Türe explains that the BDDK took action due to the prevalence of card copying and the use of predictable PINs. She notes that the initial ban on easily guessable PINs led to an increase in the use of football club founding dates and repeated licence plate numbers, prompting this expanded regulation.
If a bank user insists on using a banned password, their card may be blocked.
