And finally… pedal to the metal
Auto enthusiasts and collectors are eagerly eyeing a rare 1966 Ford GT40 MKI Road Car, listed by Mecum Auctions on 2 January 2024, with a staggering estimated value of $7 million (around £5.5m).
This sleek metallic dark blue GT40, boasting black interior and right-hand drive, is one of only 30 GT40 Road Cars ever built. With a mere 13,442 miles on the odometer, the car, hidden from the public eye for the last 30 years under its fourth owner, is described as a barely used, concours-quality gem by AutoBlog.com.
Mecum’s COO, Sam Murtaugh, emphasised the rarity of such an offering, likening it to a masterpiece by Picasso. The GT40’s scarcity is underscored by its international acclaim as the American vehicle that dethroned the Ferrari dynasty at Le Mans, France.
The auction, taking place at Mecum’s Kissimmee, Florida 2024 showcase until 14 January, is expected to draw considerable attention. While Mecum has not provided a pre-sale estimate, Hagerty values the GT40 at just over $7 million, emphasising the exceptional quality of this particular model, Fox News reports.
