And finally... mine your own business

An Airbnb host has been forced to add a new rule to her listings – no cryptocurrency mining – after guests ran up a $1,500 (c. £1,175) electricity bill during a three-week stay.

The North Carolina Airbnb host, Ashley Class, reviewed security camera footage and discovered they had brought in at least 10 computer rigs for crypto mining. The energy-intensive process of crypto mining involves solving complex mathematical equations to earn digital currency, and can lead to significantly higher electricity bills.

Ms Class said she had to involve Airbnb and provide documentation before the guests, who reportedly made $100,000 (c. £78,325) during their stay, agreed to pay the extra charges, Business Insider reports.

Other Airbnb hosts commented on Ms Class’ TikTok video, stating that they had also had to explicitly ban crypto mining in their listings.
