And finally… joint effort
A group of police officers who allegedly accepted a large bribe in lieu of seizing cannabis and cash from a suspected drug dealer have been arrested after he subsequently reported them.
The five junior officers and one senior officer from a Trinidad and Tobago police department were detained for questioning on Tuesday afternoon, the local Daily Express reports.
A separate police department is now investigating claims the six officers went to the suspected dealer’s home and seized a large quantity of cannabis, cash and camouflage uniforms – before returning it in exchange for TT$50,000 (around £6,000).
The day after the alleged incident, the suspect reported the officers to the police department which investigates internal corruption and misconduct.
A decision on whether to charge the officers will be made by prosecutors after the department completes its investigation.
Whether the suspected dealer will receive a fresh police visit remains unclear.
