And finally… I’ll pay back
Arnold Schwarzenegger spent several hours being detained by German customs officials in a tax row over a luxury watch.
The action movie star turned climate change campaigner allegedly failed to declare a custom-made watch by Audemars Piguet, which he intended to auction to raise funds for The Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative.
Officials at Munich Airport asked him to pay a €35,000 fine – but then struggled to find a working card machine or other suitable method for him to pay, CBS News reports.
Schwarzenegger was taken to an ATM, which could not dispense as much as €35,000, and to a bank which turned out to be closed. Staff were eventually able to locate a working card machine for him to pay.
He was allowed to continue his journey to Austria without the watch, which remains the focus of a criminal investigation into possible tax evasion.
