The creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, Yuji Naka, has been arrested for alleged insider trading.

An announcement by Japanese authorities has revealed that Mr Naka was arrested as the third suspect in an insider trading case regarding the video game Dragon Quest Tact. Reportedly, Mr Naka knew about the existence of the game while was employed at the game’s publisher, Square Enix, before the game’s was officially announced.

Before it was revealed that the game would be a joint project between Square Enix and developer Aiming, Mr Naka purchased 10,000 shares of Aiming stock worth some 2.8 million yen (£16,600) with the presumed intention of selling the shares once their value grew upon the news becoming public.

Mr Naka’s arrest follows arrests of former Dragon Quest XI middleware manager Taisuke Sasaki and former Dragon Quest X event programmer Fumiaki Suzuki, who were also involved in the scheme. All three have been charged with insider trading and violating Japan’s Financial Instruments and Exchange Law. If conviction goes forward, the men could face huge fines or long prison sentences, TheGamer reports.
