Andy Warhol’s famous Shot Sage Blue Marilyn painting has been sold at an auction for $195m (£158m).
The sale has made it the most expensive work by an American artist sold at auction.
The famous image was created in 1964 and is a close-up portrait of Marilyn Monroe, depicted in vibrant block colours, with yellow hair, blue eyeshadow and red lips on a blue background.
The artwork was sold at Christie’s auction house in New York. The painting came from the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which will receive all proceeds from the sale, STV News reports.
