And finally… don’t bank on it
Bank of Ireland customers experienced a brief windfall as a result of a glitch in the bank’s system allowing withdrawals of up to €1,000 (around £856) from ATMs, even if their accounts held no funds.
This technical hiccup also affected the bank’s app, granting users similar privileges when transferring funds. The bank has since resolved the issue and assured customers that these transactions would reflect in their accounts by Wednesday, ITV News reports.
An Garda Siochana took note of the “unusual volume of activity” as queues formed at various Bank of Ireland ATMs. Urging those who may have unintentionally overdrawn to get in touch, the bank extended its apologies for the inconvenience caused by the oversight.
In a statement released today, the bank said: “These transfers and withdrawals will be applied to customers’ accounts today. We urge any customer who may find themselves in financial difficulty due to overdrawing on their account to contact us.
“We sincerely apologise for the disruption this outage caused – we know we fell far below the standards our customers expect from us.”
