And finally… cash or Czech?
Czech finance officials have responded coolly to Cuban proposals to pay off $276 million in debt with bottles of the Caribbean country’s famous rum.
Havana raised the prospect of paying in either pharmaceuticals or rum at recent negotiations over the historic debt, which dates back to the Cold War era.
However, Czechia maintains that at least part of the debt should be paid in cash.
If the repayment was made fully in rum, it means Cuba would deliver 138 times as much rum to Czechia as the $2 million worth which was imported last year.
