And finally… bone to pick
A motorist has been fined after being caught driving in a dedicated carpool lane with a plastic skeleton in the passenger seat.
The Halloween decoration, spooky enough in itself, was also wearing a mask resembling that of Ghostface in the Scream horror film series.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) reminded members of the public in a Facebook post that “decorations being transported in the passenger seat do not qualify to meet carpool requirements”.
Under California law, a passenger is defined as “any person who occupies a safety restraint device, i.e. seatbelt”.
The skeleton was wearing a seatbelt but was not a person, legal experts pointed out.
The penalty for driving alone in a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane in California is a $490 ticket (c. £380).
