And finally… all the world’s a stage
A senior banking lawyer has launched a new collection of plays and poetry with a financial twist.
Erik Vrij, head of legal in the corporate and transactional banking team at First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), recently launched Macbet & King Liar: Financial Tragedy & Poetry.
The first part of the book is a “financial thriller taking the shape of a Shakespearean play, based on the world’s actual biggest financial tragedies”, while the second is a “collection of 24 of the most famous short poems, rewritten into a financial setting”.
The new book boasts an endorsement from Gert Demmink, head of enforcement at the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates, who said: “Delightful and witty tales, the author eruditely introduces a charade of colourful characters, like a carnival parade.
“I truly enjoyed reading about those cases and their crooks, cranks and careerists. And remember: many of these perps have gone to prison.”
Mr Vrij previously launched a collection of fairy tales rewritten with financial themes, titled One Billion and One Dirham: Financial Fairy Tales.
