And finally... all shook up

A private company that controls the Elvis Presley name has apologised after threatening to end unlicensed Elvis-themed weddings in Las Vegas.

Authentic Brands Group (ABG) had ordered wedding chapel operators to halt all ceremonies using an Elvis Presley theme, having sent cease-and-desist notices last month.

Kayla Collins, manager of the Little Chapel of Hears and LasVegasElvisWeddingChapel.com, said: “We are a family-run business and now we’re hanging with the big dogs. That’s our bread and butter. I don’t get it. We were just hitting our stride again through Covid, then this happens.”

However, in an apparent moment of miscommunication, ABG has reversed their stance now saying they wish to work with chapel owners so they can continue performing Elvis Presley themed ceremonies, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

A spokesperson for ABG said: “ABG is proud to be the guardian of the Elvis Presley legacy and is committed to protecting it for generations to come. We are sorry that recent communication with a small number of Las Vegas based chapels caused confusion and concern.

“That was never our intention. We are working with the chapels to ensure that the usage of Elvis’ name, image and likeness are in keeping with his legacy.

“Elvis is embedded into the fabric of Las Vegas, and we embrace and celebrate Elvis fandom. From tribute artists and impersonators to chapels and fan clubs, each and every one of these groups help to keep Elvis relevant for new generations of fans.”
