ACCA has called on Kier Starmer’s new government to prioritise financial and economic policies within its first 100 days in office.

The global accounting body says the government should specifically focus on improving HMRC services, encouraging domestic and international investment, and supporting small businesses.

ACCA’s strategic engagement lead for Scotland, Susan Love said: “Key to getting the UK economy firing on all cylinders is restoring trust and transparency in our business ecosystem so we’d urge the new government to accelerate long-awaited reforms to the audit regime and reverse the collapse in HMRC service levels.

“For Scotland’s economy to thrive, many in the business community will be hoping to see a new era of Scottish and UK governments working effectively together to realise economic opportunities including planning for net zero, improving our infrastructure and investing in our people.”
