Aberdeen’s Hilton DoubleTree enters liquidation
Aberdeen’s Hilton DoubleTree has gone into liquidation with the hotel’s owners, Ability Hotels, closing the venue with immediate effect yesterday.
The firm has made its 90 employees redundant.
Martyn Giles, head of asset management for the Ability Group, blamed the hotel’s closure on the “huge impact in the slump of the oil market” in recent years combined with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.
Mr Giles urged that bosses had “explored every avenue” for months before deciding to close the 168-room hotel located on Aberdeen’s Beach Boulevard, The Press and Journal reports.
A Hilton spokeswoman said: “The owner of DoubleTree Aberdeen City Centre, Ability Hotels (Aberdeen), has informed us that it is no longer viable for the company to continue to trade and that the directors of the company are placing the company into liquidation.
“As a result, the hotel will remain closed and team members have been informed by their employer, Ability Hotels (Aberdeen), that they will be made redundant.
“We are saddened by this news and wish the team at the hotel well, in what we appreciate is a very difficult time.”
