Aberdeen-Houston links celebrated at Saltire Foundation Houston golf day
Senior figures from the Aberdeen and Houston oil and gas communities will be representing Scotland at the second annual Swing4Saltire Golf Fundraiser next Friday at the River Ridge Golf Course in Houston, Texas.
The event, in support of the Saltire Foundation, whose mission is to “find, fuel and spark” the next generation of business leaders in Scotland, is organised by Saltire Foundation Ambassadors in Houston as well as Saltire Scholars, all from Scottish universities, who are undertaking summer internships with companies in Houston.
Organisers hope to surpass the $13,000 raised last year to provide opportunities for talented young individuals from Scotland to participate on Saltire Foundation programmes.
Event Sponsors Fifth Ring and Wood Group Mustang both have strong ties to the Aberdeen business community.
The Saltire Foundation also has strong links to the US through its programmes.
Since 2007, 267 Saltire Scholar Undergraduate Interns have been placed in internships across the US with companies such as Wood Group, Barclays, The Edrington Group and Memorial Resource Development Corporation.
Derek Blackwood, Chairman of the Saltire Foundation, and former President-Americas of Wood Group PSN said: “Last year’s event was a great success and we hope this year will be just as good. It’s a fantastic opportunity to dust off the clubs and strengthen the relationships between Aberdeen and Houston as well as supporting business leaders of the future.”
The Saltire Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Entrepreneurial Scotland (ES) and also boats the coveted Fellowship program where it sends 20-30 Fellows per annum to spend 4 months in the US at Babson College, Massachusetts, the top business school in the world for entrepreneurial leadership.
Participation at the event can be on an individual basis as well as forming teams and support can be via sponsorship or donation.
