TyreRunner.com reports 800% growth as it eyes further expansion

Bryan MacMillan

Launched in 2019, TyreRunner.com has quickly gained traction as more consumers than ever choose to shop online. While online tyre sales accounted for less than 3% of total sales in the UK back in 2010, by the end of 2021 it’s expected that online sales will account for more than 15-20% of the tyre market, spurred further by the effects of the pandemic.

TyreRunner.com already compares tyre deals, reviews, and fitting availability at over 5,000 fitting centres across every town within the UK. However, TyreRunner.com founder Bryan MacMillan believes much more can be done to make the tyre purchasing process easier for everyone.

He said: “Tyres are an industry filled with jargon and it’s often difficult and time consuming for drivers to check all compatible options that are available to them, online and offline, at a time and place convenient to them whether it’s in a branch, or by a mobile fitting vehicle in their driveway.”

“Our aim for TyreRunner.com is to expand our same-day booking facility so that every town in the UK has a same-day mobile or in centre fitting option available to them within a 5-mile radius ”

He added that he believes drivers are desperate for good honest impartial advice. He said: “Tyres are a frustrating inconvenience for most vehicle owners, decades of jargon riddled sales tactics have left consumers dreading their next interaction with the automotive aftercare industry – resulting in drivers often avoiding tyre maintenance until it’s too late”

The latest figures from the independent tyre safety charity TyreSafe.org suggests that 1 in 4 vehicles have a defective tyre at any given time on British roads causing 2.2 million MOT failures each year. More worryingly the charity suggests that over 159 people are killed or seriously injured each year as a direct result of poor tyre maintenance.

Mr MacMillan continued: “Being independent of retailers, wholesalers, vehicle and tyre manufacturers allows TyreRunner.com to provide truly independent and unbiased advice on booking your next tyre replacement – jargon free. Tyre Runner is not another internet tyre retailer, but a platform for internet and independent retailers to compete alongside the national and regional chains, letting retailers differentiate themselves based on service, reliability, reviews, availability of both tyres and booking appointments, and not just price alone”.

“As we look ahead to our plans for 2021/22 Tyre Runner will look to double our current team across software engineering, marketing and customer service to make sure drivers have a same day tyre buying experience that is backed by customer service levels expected of an internet company in 2021.”
