Tilney makes senior hire in Scotland and opens new Edinburgh office

Wealth management company Tilney has continued to expand its presence in Scotland with a move to a new office in the capital city to accommodate its growing team and with the hire of Ronnie Binnie from Standard Life Aberdeen as managing partner for Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Less than half a mile from the previous office in Melville Street the new office in Edinburgh’s Exchange District at Atria 2 Street opened yesterday.

Atria 2, 148 Morrison Street is located adjacent to the Edinburgh International Conference Centre and is 6400 square ft – 20 per cent larger than the previous accommodation. The office currently boasts 43 staff with plenty of room to expand the team, as Tilney continues its hiring programme.

Tilney, which manages over £24 billion of assets for private clients and charities, is one of the largest wealth managers in Scotland and one of a handful of firms with an office presence in the nation’s three largest cities: Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. The firm’s presence in Scotland has grown considerably over the past year with a number of new hires in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The firm’s hiring programme continues with the appointment of Ronnie Binnie who will take on the overall responsibility for the east of Scotland business, leading the delivery of regional business plans for the Edinburgh and Aberdeen offices. Mr Binnie will report to Paul Frame, head of Scotland and Northern Ireland at Tilney.

Mr Binnie brings with him a significant amount of business development and senior management experience, having spent the last 27 years of his career at Standard Life Aberdeen. He was latterly as head of business development at Aberdeen Standard Capital, the group’s discretionary management division. His career has spanned financial planning, investment management and business development in both the direct and intermediated spaces.

Paul Frame, head of Scotland and Northern Ireland at the Tilney, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ronnie to our business. He has a long and impressive record as a leader in our industry and he will be a huge asset to the team.

“Ronnie joins at a very exciting time for our business in Scotland as we look to expand our client based further and continue to make additional hires in both our financial planning and investment management teams. Having already established an excellent client base in the east of Scotland, the opening of Tilney’s new and bigger Edinburgh office is a yet another milestone to achieving our ambition of becoming the most trusted wealth manager in Scotland.”
