Popular Arran bar under new ownership following RBS package

A popular bar and brasserie on the Isle of Arran has reopened under new ownership, thanks to a six-figure funding package from Royal Bank of Scotland.

Brodick Brasserie was taken over earlier this year by husband and wife Graeme and Lily McKinnon, and opened with a refreshed offering to customers at the beginning of November.

The restaurant and bar is one of Arran’s best-known establishments, popular with locals and tourists alike, and boasts a 4.5 out of 5 rating on TripAdvisor.

In addition to launching a new menu in November, there are also plans to increase the number of community events held at the restaurant.

Graeme and Lily are the bar’s first new owners in more than 40 years, and while Lily continues her role as minister at Lamlash and Kilmory Parish Churches, Graeme runs the businesses with daughter Laura, son Nelson and grandson Timur.

The sale, supported by Royal Bank of Scotland, has created three new jobs, bringing the number of full time staff from 15 to 18.

Graeme McKinnon, owner of Brodick Brasserie, said: “The Brodick Bar has been a go-to establishment for many years, thanks to the care and dedication of its previous owners, the McFadzean family, and we look forward to continuing as a family-run business.

“As a family, we’re all working hard to maintain Brodick Bar’s high standards, as well as offer something fresh and exciting. While we enjoyed visiting the restaurant as customers, we’re enjoying putting our own stamp on things even more, and look forward to introducing a new menu.

Neil Cairns, local relationship manager for Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “The Brodick Bar has been family-run for more than 40 years and it’s encouraging to see it in the hands of another family business, dedicated to upholding the bar’s high standards. The Brodick is in safe hands with the McKinnons, and we wish them every success in their newest venture.”

The deal was referred to local relationship manager Neil Cairns via Sarah Delo, broker development manager at Royal Bank of Scotland, who was introduced to Brodick Brasserie by commercial finance broker Stephen McConalogue of Christie Finance in Glasgow.
